US Admiral Warns Asia: China’s Navy Is Growing Faster Than Ever

The United States issued a fresh warning about China’s rapidly growing navy. Analysts say that Beijing’s expanding fleet is reshaping the balance of power in the South China Sea and across the region. Concern is building in Washington, which is already busy with its war against Iran, that China may take advantage the global chaos to make moves in Southeast Asia.

 

Why Washington Is Concerned

China now has the world’s largest navy by number of ships. While Beijing has more ships than the US, it still has fewer aircraft carriers and amphibious assault vessels.

 

That said, China is building new ships at an incredible pace. The newest aircraft carrier, Fujian, is already in service, and its most advanced amphibious assault ship is undergoing sea trials.

 

The US said the growing number of carriers raises serious questions about China’s global ambitions. It said it is watching China's movements closely.
