The United States government is trying to break away from Anthropic, the US artificial intelligence company behind the Claude chatbot, while still deploying one of the company's most sensitive cybersecurity models to protect US government systems.
It's quite the contradiction. Washington is moving to reduce dependence on Anthropic, but its own defense establishment is using Claude Mythos Preview, an unreleased cyber-AI system that can hunt hidden software flaws at a speed human security teams cannot match.
As the US wrestles with its own AI issues, China is quickly trying to catch up. Beijing is pushing its companies, regulators, and researchers to close the gap with the United States as fast as possible.
Pentagon Pushes Away While Using Mythos
The Defense Department labeled Anthropic a national security supply-chain risk on March 5 after the company refused to let its AI systems be used for fully autonomous weapons or mass surveillance of US citizens.
