Merz Says US Is Being Humiliated by Iran as Trump’s War Spirals Without an Exit

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has delivered one of the sharpest allied rebukes yet of Donald Trump’s war with Iran, warning that the United States entered the conflict without a clear strategy and is now being outplayed by Tehran.


Merz said Washington is being “humiliated” by Iranian leaders, especially the Revolutionary Guard. His message was blunt: Iran is proving stronger than expected, the US looks trapped, and Europe is already paying the price.


A Rushed War With No Clear Strategy


Merz said the Americans “got into this war without any strategy” after Washington and Israel launched their offensive against Iran on February 28. 


The German chancellor said he had already raised his doubts directly with Trump twice. In his view, the war was a rushed decision, and the longer it drags on, the more reckless that decision looks.
