Where the Russia-Ukraine War Stands Today: Will There Be A Winner?

Four years after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the war has brought immense destruction but no clear victor. What many observers expected to last weeks has become the longest major war fought on European soil since World War II. The conflict has reshaped Europe’s security landscape, devastated Ukraine, strained Russia’s military and economy, and tested the cohesion of the Western alliance.

 

Russia has failed to crush Ukraine. Ukraine has survived against the odds but remains unable to reclaim large portions of its territory. Meanwhile, there are many questions about the United States' role as the global superpower and its policy towards Europe, which has carried an increasing share of the burden of supporting Kyiv.

 

Amid this destruction, however, one major power has quietly improved its position: China. While others fight, bleed, and spend vast resources, Beijing is advancing.
