China has carried out large-scale military drills near Taiwan, drawing criticism from Asian countries and the United States, as well as raising fresh concerns about stability in the Taiwan Strait. The exercises, known as Justice Mission 2025, simulated a full blockade of the island and included live-fire operations close to Taiwan’s main territory.
US officials described the drills as “unnecessary” and warned Beijing against escalating tensions. The US State Department urged China to stop its military pressure and return to dialogue, saying China’s actions risk destabilizing the region.
