Across Southeast Asia, thousands of people are leaving their homes each year, driven by war, violence, poverty, and climate disasters. For many, migration is not a choice but a last attempt to survive. Their stories reveal both the suffering they endure and the hope they still hold onto.
The Struggle for Survival
One of the most painful examples is the tragedy of the Rohingya, a Muslim minority from Myanmar. Since 2017, they have faced severe persecution, including mass killings, burned villages, and widespread displacement.
Most Rohingya who escape end up in crowded refugee camps in Bangladesh, living in harsh conditions with little access to education, healthcare, or legal rights.
Nur Ayna, a young Rohingya refugee, remembers the terror: "The violence and the killing drove us to leave our homes. They burned houses in my neighborhood. They shot and killed a lot of people in my village. We were living with fear every day."
