Attempt to Arrest Dawlah Islamiya-Maute Commander Ends in Deadly Clash
Police and army troops entered a village near Marantao to arrest Amerol Mangoranca, a commander authorities linked to the Dawlah Islamiya-Maute network, on charges including murder, homicide, and kidnapping. Instead of a clean operation, they ended up in an hour-long firefight. By the end, Mangoranca and nine other suspected militants were dead, including four women.
Authorities said suspected members of Dawlah Islamiya-Maute opened fire as police and troops tried to serve warrants on Mangoranca and his group. Troops recovered four rifles, a pistol, a grenade, bomb parts, and other materials from the scene.
