Singapore and Malaysia Universities Dominate Southeast Asia Rankings 2026

Singapore and Malaysia are emerging as the clear leaders in Southeast Asia’s higher education landscape. A new regional ranking by Times Higher Education highlights a growing shift in academic power, with universities from both countries outperforming traditional regional competitors.

 

At the top of the list are National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University, which secured the number one and two spots. Both institutions already have strong global reputations, and their rankings reflect continued strength in research, teaching quality, and international collaboration. Malaysia also stood out, placing seven universities in the top 10, an unusually strong showing that signals rapid progress.
