Bamban is a small town a few hours north of Manila. When Guo first became mayor, residents described her as kind, quiet and focused on improving local services. Few imagined that beneath this calm image was a scandal waiting to explode across national headlines.
The Raid That Changed Everything
In 2024, police stormed a large compound in Bamban and found one of the biggest online scam hubs ever found in the Philippines. More than 800 people were rescued. Many were foreign workers who said they had been trapped and forced to run fake investment schemes, a cruel operation known locally as "pig butchering."
