Cardinal David Slams Flood Control Corruption as "Worst in Philippine History"

Cardinal Pablo Virgilio David, who also leads the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, has issued one of his strongest public statements yet, condemning the multibillion-peso flood control corruption scandal that has shaken the country.

 

In a passionate Sunday sermon, the Cardinal called the scheme the “worst corruption scandal in our nation’s history,” saying the scale of theft has left many Filipinos vulnerable to deadly floods. 

 

Cardinal Calls for Full Accountability

"Corruption is venomous and it can kill," the Cardinal said in his sermon. "It cannot be contained unless those responsible are charged, jailed, and held accountable."

 

He stressed that the truth behind the scheme, which allegedly involved suitcases of cash and lavish lifestyles funded by public money, must be fully exposed before the nation can heal.
