The Philippine Senate became the center of a scary political crisis Wednesday night after gunfire erupted inside the building, hours after a top Rodrigo Duterte ally claimed police were coming to drag him to International Criminal Court (ICC).
The chaos struck Manila’s political core. Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, Duterte’s former drug war enforcer, is wanted by the ICC in a crimes against humanity case tied to the bloody crackdown that killed thousands of people.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. quickly denied any government role, saying there had been no order to arrest Dela Rosa and no state operation behind the violence.

The Senate was still in session at around 7:30 p.m. when a live broadcast captured explosions and apparent gunfire. It was not immediately clear what triggered the confrontation, who tried to enter the premises, or whether the incident was tied to the attempted arrest drama
