Gulf States Race to Secure Their Digital Economies as Cyber Threats Rise

Cybersecurity is becoming a major national priority across the Gulf. Countries like Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, and Oman are increasing investments in digital security as their economies become more connected and technology-driven.

 

Governments across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), are expanding sectors such as artificial intelligence, financial technology, smart infrastructure, cloud services, and digital trade.

 

But growing reliance on digital systems also bring growing risks. Cyberattacks in the Middle East now cost companies an average of $8.05 million per breach, nearly double the global average. Cyberattacks in the Middle East often cost more because many attacks target high-value sectors such as energy, finance, transport, and government infrastructure, where disruptions can quickly affect national economies and essential services. Rapid digital growth across the Gulf has also expanded online systems faster than cybersecurity
